Switzerland went its own way compared to the countries in the EU. Winter tourism was possible, albeit with restrictions and conditions. At the same time, the demand from guests for risk-free booking options increased.
As a result, Switzerland was the only region to see an increase in online sales - 20% to be precise.
All other regions suffered heavy losses - although these varied quite considerably over the season as a whole.
In Tyrol and Salzburg, the slump in online bookings is over -95%. Behind it follow the remaining Austrian Lands of the Federal Republic with a slump of -86%.
The situation is somewhat better for our international customers, but also for our customers from Germany. Internationally, we have a decline of -66%, in Germany of around -55%.
Of course, the online figures only take into account online bookings and also say nothing about cancelled bookings by guests. Nevertheless, they reflect which regions have been hit particularly hard and which have still come through this pandemic season relatively well.
Regardless, we see that the topic of online booking has received a boost from the pandemic that we believe will last.
