The first ski day of the season - tips for the office staff
To make the first ski day of the season less shaky and injuries less likely, Michael has four tips for the first ski day that will certainly help the office staff at your ski school and the Waldhart Software employees:
Don't overexert yourself
A moderately sloped piste, start slowly, concentrate and keep a comfortable pace. No matter how tempting the sun and the snow may be: take it slowly and don't take off right away like Marcel Hirscher.
Stable middle position - pole exercise
With wobbly knees, a stable mid-position is worth striving for. Michael's exercise: one pole (the one on the inside of the turn) is laid casually over your shoulder when you start the turn, the pole on the outside of the turn is stretched sideways into the snow. In this way you feel that you are widening your contact surface and achieving a stable central position.
Short turns, short radii
Especially in the first turns, you should not pick up too much speed. Therefore, try to make short turns right at the beginning in order to quickly build up a feeling for the ski. It is important to keep your upper body calm and in a central position (avoid lying back). The movement for the individual turns comes from the legs.
"Look through the window" - keep the upper body calm.
A helpful tip, especially at the beginning, is to keep the upper body still. Michael shows you an exercise that you can easily check yourself: Hold the sticks vertically upwards in front of your upper body and "look through the window".
"With these tips, your first turns in the fresh snow will certainly be much more pleasant," says Michael in his typical Pitztal dialect. If these four tips don't work for your first ski turns of the season, there's always one truism that helps: ski more!
