Participants at the WS Days 2024 had the opportunity to try out VR glasses themselves and, for example, simulate an avalanche search and rescue (LVS). The enthusiasm for the diverse applications of VR was great, and ski school directors see numerous applications for their industry.
Here are some of the most exciting application areas that we discussed together in the workshop:
1. Training and Education
VR can convey the FIS rules (International Ski Federation rules) in an interactive and memorable way. In addition, VR enables preparation for real situations in a safe virtual environment. This includes realistic first aid training to ensure that employees can act quickly and correctly in an emergency. Regular and realistic training increases employees' competence and confidence and prepares them for real accidents.
Moreover, virtual reenactments of ski races can help athletes prepare for specific race tracks, course settings, and weather conditions.
2. Orientation Assistance
VR can depict meeting points and important locations in the ski school as well as in the ski area, making orientation significantly easier for participants.
3. Advertising Opportunities
With VR, it is possible to emotionally convey the sport of skiing and encourage people to ski even outside the ski areas. The immersive nature of VR technology can evoke strong emotions and arouse interest and enthusiasm for skiing.
Additionally, VR can help communicate the professional image of ski instructors by providing insights into their daily lives and tasks. This can attract potential young talent to the profession.
